Capital Punishment Essay -- Crime Jail Death Penalty Essays

The death penalty Since the commencement of man, the punishment of death was given to hoodlums who violated the law. The death penalty is the extraordinary punishment for wrongdoing (Compton's) is still being used today in numerous nations. A criminal can be condemned to death for different violations. Considerably more were the strategies used to execute, many being coldblooded and bizarre. There have been numerous discussions on whether to abrogate capital punishment. There are numerous advantages and disadvantages to this muddled issue. The death penalty is being used for some reasons and has been authorized from multiple points of view consistently. The censured detainee waiting for capital punishment may have violated the law, yet does that give us the option to end the life of another individual? Â Â Â Â Â Why have we utilized capital punishment? Capital punishment for all time expels culprits from our general public and keeps the executed criminal from proceeding with his criminal vocation (Hollywood Studio). We kill in frantic expectations that these executioners and attackers won't have the option to strike once more, killing or assaulting increasingly honest casualties. As a rule, the criminal has violated the law, yet on the off chance that he is let off effectively and sneaks past the framework, he may go out and carry out the wrongdoing over and over. Capital punishment is a definitive discipline; it gets the point through and shows the exercise that society won't set up with the individuals who overstep the law. It is an undeniable discipline and rules out recovery of the lawbreaker. Recurrent guilty parties must be shielded from violating the law again. They have gotten their opportunities to apologize and change. The main other approach to stop recurrent wrongd oers is to just dispense with them (Electric Chair). Why not simply sentence them to life detainment? Life detainment simply isn't as compelling as the Death Penalty since it isn't as extreme and brutal (KSCOffices). Life detainment is delicate and just prevails with regards to expelling the criminal for a specific measure of time. Life detainment is likewise extravagant. The criminal who violated the law ought not be permitted to mooch cash off the framework, getting warming, garments, in-entryway plumbing, and three suppers every day, while a vagrant has nothing and has not hurt anybody. It costs generally $30,000 every year to keep a prisoner in prison, and numerous individuals don't feel it merits their cash to keep Capital offense hoodlums alive. Tips from Me to You

Tips from Me to You This is more of a mini-entry, a blogget if you will. I know that for a good portion of you, the pressure is on, as theres officially nothing else you can do about your Early Action application. But you know what you have to do now? Chill out. Seriously, pat yourselves on the backs guys, if youve done your best walk away from it now. Its out of your hands, dont let the rest of the world pass you by. Im sure it varies by high school location and personality, but Senior Year is not something youre going to want to fill with stress. Make plans with your friends, watch movies, make jokes, write programs, start organizations, just DO stuff. Whatever it is you like to do, get out there and get it done! Now I know youre probably thinking but Chrism* I spent 2.0X10^6 hours on my application, do you think thats enough? Do you think Ill get in because I expressed my number in scientific notation? Do I need more Sig Figs? Is 2 enough? Here comes point #2, and its gonna hit you hard: It doesnt matter. *gasp*! MIT, not matter?! Now dont get me wrong, I absolutely love this place, even amidst the sunrise as my cue to bed and the hours tooling for a C on a test, and you should take pride in your application, but an important thing to remember is that MIT is not the only place in the world, and definitely not perfect for everyone. Its interesting that only after coming here for school did I realize how unhappy some people would really be here, so you may just have to trust me on that one, even though when I was in your spot I probably wouldnt have believed it. The thing about your application is that its a trade-off between you and Admissions. You have two similar but distinct characteristics: YOU: Know yourself, but dont know MIT that well. ADMISSIONS: Knows MIT, but doesnt know you that well. So to make sure everyones happy, theres a trade off, all you have to do is be honest about yourself, and Admissions will be able to tell if youll like it here, and Admissions is super good at their job, (I hear they hire the sexiest bloggers too, but thats just what I hear)The catch is they can only go off what you tell them, so its in YOUR best interest to be honest. Because even if there was some formula you could replicate to guarantee admission (its 6. Thats it. The answer is 6*), getting in based on a fabrication isnt only dishonest, its not you. And YOU wont be happy, whoever you wrote about on that application will. (Which is not you, in case you didnt catch what that implied) So the whole point of this is to take a deep breath and relax. If you applied early the hard part is over. If youre applying regular, dont stress about it. In 6 months or so youll be graduating from high school, and the end of Senior Year is totally awesome. Enjoy every minute youve got and dont get too caught up in being the perfect applicant. Be the perfect you. Get excited about the fact that if you do your best on your application, one year from today, youll be in happy in a college thats right for you. I am. *Its surprising the number of emails I get addressing me in sentences as Chrism. My name doesnt rhyme with prism, you can just call me Chris. **In case you didnt pick up on the sarcasm, there is no admissions formula, and it certainly wouldnt be 6. If you put 6 on your application and thats it, I take no responsibility for whatever happens. P.s. email me some questions and Ill do a QA blog. ***UPDATE*** Ok, so Im going to post the QA blog next Wednesday the 12th, so plan on emailing or commenting your questions to me by say Tuesday the 11th. I can already tell this will be interesting.

Letting Go of Old Friends… Free Essays

Village of Schaumburg Sex, Age, and Employment Demographics The village of Schaumburg is a large village located in  Cook County in Northeastern Illinois. The village is a northwestern suburb of Chicago and is part of the Golden Corridor. Schaumburg has the reputation of being the model community of Cook County. We will write a custom essay sample on Letting Go of Old Friends†¦ or any similar topic only for you Order Now Schaumburg is located roughly 28 miles (45  km) northwest of the Chicago Loop  and approximately 10 miles (16  km) northwest of O’Hare International Airport. As of the 2011 community survey the Village of Schaumburg had a total population of 49. 0% of males and 50. 10% of females. It can be determined by the chart below that the populations of females in the village of Schaumburg make up approximately 37,160 while males come in at 37,038. These estimates were based on a total population of 74,198 people. For this paper the focus will remain on the population of males and females in two separate subgroups of 18years of age and over and 65 years of age and over. I will also discuss the emphasis that is associated with these age factors and the employment rate in Schaumburg. According to the 2011 American Community Survey for the village of Schaumburg, the total provisional population of males and females 18 years and over stood at 59,489. The percentage break down of the population of males 18 years and over has a percentage of 48. 10%, while the percentage for females 18 years and over consist of 51. 90%. In contrast, the percentage of males ages 65 years and over is 39. 20% while females 65 years and over maintains a percentage of 60. 80%. Based on the information provided it can be determined that the village of Schaumburg has an increased population of males and females over the ages of 18. My theory is that the Village of Schaumburg is heavily populated with younger adults due to the opportunity of jobs the village has to offer. Major corporations like Motorola, IBM, and Comcast hold company headquarters in the Village of Schaumburg. Working class adults are more willing to live in communities that are abundant with job opportunities. According to the economic characteristics for the Village of Schaumburg the overall employment status stood at 61,311. The breakdown of the populace in the work force outweighs the total number of unemployment citizens in the village. The percentage of employed citizens is right around 66. 30%, while the unemployed come in at a low 4. 90%. It is evident that the Village of Schaumburg maintains a steady employment rate due to the numerous employment options available in the area. I found the low 2011 unemployment rate in Schaumburg surprising, considering that the overall economies unemployment rate was at 8. %. Based on the information provided it can be determined that the Village of Schaumburg is a community that has a population that is heavily populated by young adults. The influx of adults can be contributed to the accessibility and variation of jobs in the area. Also, the notable changes that were brought about in the year 2000 with attractions such as Streets of Wood field, Ga me Works, and the Convention Center attributed to the increase of young adults and the working class citizens in the Village of Schaumburg. Valid Contract free essay sample

Essential features of a valid contract Contracts come in all shapes and sizes. Some are verbal, some are written. Some are formal, some informal. The use of the internet and electronic technology is also becoming increasingly common in the context of forming contractual relationships. It is, therefore, important to understand the essential features which make a contract valid, binding, and enforceable. What is a contract? A contract is an agreement between two or more parties that is intended to be enforcable. A contract may be created: * Orally; In writing (including by electronic means or through a website); * By inference or conduct; or * By a combination of all or any of the above. Essential elements? For a binding contract to be formed there must be: * An offer which is accepted and for which valid consideration is given; * An intention to create a legal relationship; and * Certainty of terms. Special rules and principles may apply to contracts that concern specific subject matter, such as employment contracts, the sale of land, and the sale of goods. We will write a custom essay sample on Valid Contract or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The offer * Must be communicated. * Can be revoked at any time prior to acceptance. Must be distinguished from an invitation to treat which is where a party communicates that it is prepared to enter negotiations with a view to forming a contract. The acceptance * The acceptance: * Must be of the offer made, otherwise it could be a  ©counter-offeri. * If posted, occurs on the date posted, if by phone, fax, or email, it occurs when received. Consideration * Must be evaluablei. Something must be supplied in return for the promise made by the offeror, eg money. * Must not be unlawful or gratuitous. * Must not be something already done or suffered (past consideration). Intention The parties must intend to be bound by the contract. However, performance of the contract may be conditional on other matters occuring. Certainty * There must be certainty as to the parties, subject matter, and price. However, a contract that leaves terms to be determined by a third party will not be invalid for uncertainty. Many contracts require parties to agree to standard terms and conditions. Make sure you read the fine print so that you understand what you are signing up to. Proving a contract It may be necessary at some point to prove the existence of the contract or explain or efend its actions before a court or some other forum. An oral contract may be whether it was ever formed. A paper trail is important to proving a written or electronic contract. Care should be taken not to destroy relevant written evidence of a contract. Enforceability Although a contract may have all of the essential elements, it may not be enforceable because of some other issue, such as: * Lack of capacity of one of the parties (eg one of the parties is a child). * Where a mistake is made about the nature of the contract. Relief may be granted under the Contractual Mistakes Act 1977 where the istake results in a substantially unequal exchange of values. * Where there has been misrepresentation of a particular fact or facts inducing a person to enter into the contract. Under the common law and the Contractual Remedies Act 1979 there may be a right to cancel the contract and/or claim damages. * Where a contract is illegal or immoral or is effected by duress or undue influence of one party over another. * Where a contract unduly restrains a person in their trade. Remedies for breach Remedies for wrongful failure by a party to perform their obligations under a ontract may include: * Damages; * Cancellation of contract; or * Specific performance. Damages Generally, damages will be awarded if the loss suffered: * Was caused by the breach; and * Is not too remote, e the loss was reasonably forseeable. The amount recoverable is usually the amount necessary to put the party not in breach in the same position as if the contract had been performed. Cancellation In addition to damages, common law and the Contractual Remedies Act 1979 may allow a party to cancel or affirm a contract where the breach is due to a misrepresentation. Specific performance This is usually granted for breach of contracts for the sale of land or unique personal property. It is not usually granted if damages are considered an adequate remedy; if they are against or for an infant; or to enforce a contract for personal services. Statute of limitations The limitation period for all simple contracts is 6 years from the time the cause of action, eg breach, arises. Finally Never sign a contract unless you are sure you understand it. Generally, you will not be able to get out of it later. If there are any terms you are unsure about get legal advice.

Amount vs. Number

Amount vs. Number â€Å"Amount† vs. â€Å"Number† â€Å"Amount† vs. â€Å"Number† By Mark Nichol The frequent confusion between amount and number is based on a misunderstanding of a small, simple distinction that the words themselves indicate. Amount refers to quantities that are measured in bulk or mass considered as a whole while number pertains to things that can be counted individually: â€Å"The amount of square footage in the attached shed is enough for a push lawn mower or a small barbecue,† but â€Å"The total number of square feet includes the attached shed’s square footage.† In reference to amount, use the terms little or less or the phrase â€Å"much more†: â€Å"The amount left is too little to be of any use.† â€Å"The amount is less than I thought.† â€Å"The amount is much more than we expected.† In reference to number, use the words few or fewer or the phrase â€Å"many more†: â€Å"The number of people who have signed up is too few.† â€Å"The number of people here, compared to the number here yesterday, is fewer.† â€Å"The number of people here is many more than we expected.† (Note that more applies to both amount and number.) Either word can be applied to a particular thing as long as the description of the thing is consistent with the distinction between amount and number: One can refer to the amount of fun one has had, but one can also count the number of fun things one has done. Two categories of things that are flexible in terms of these usages are money and time: One can refer to an amount of money or to a number of dollar bills, or to an amount of time or a number of hours: â€Å"The amount of money in the cookie jar has decreased† and â€Å"The number of dollar bills in the cookie jar has decreased† are both correct, as are â€Å"I need to decrease the amount of hours I’m scheduled to work† and â€Å"I need to decrease the number of hours I’m scheduled to work.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? CIPD Diploma (Human Resource Practice Course ) Essay

CIPD Diploma (Human Resource Practice Course ) - Essay Example Coaching the line managers is therefore crucial especially when it comes to performance management. Line managers also need the help of HR professionals in dealing with disagreements since the HR are skilled in problem-solving and well versed with organization policies and procedures. Senior managers on the other hand, need HR to be business partners. This requires HR to develop deep understanding of the business and its context. They also need the HR to challenge them where possible so that they can know where they are going wrong when making decisions. The HR/L &D needs to prioritize the needs of service users effectively. When faced with conflicting needs from the different service users, HR needs to know how to handle the situation by applying their knowledge and competencies. The CIPD profession Map is crucial in acquiring such competencies. For example, a senior manager may want a manpower report for last year to present in a meeting in the afternoon, and at the same time an employee has come to complain about harassment by her boss while a line manager has come to complain about performance of a certain employee. How does the HR prioritize such needs? In this case, first HR should look at the urgency and importance of the need. While harassment and employee performance are as important as the manpower report, the HR should prepare the report first due to its urgency. Furthermore, the other two needs can follow laid down rules and procedures. HR should then start investigations on the harassment issue and arrange for a discipl inary committee meeting at a later date where witnesses can produce evidence. While this is ongoing, HR can convene a meeting between line manager and underperforming employee to establish the source of the problem and offer solutions. This will ensure all the needs of the service users are met in a timely manner without favoring one user over the others. Make all users feel they are equally important and that

Identifying The Role And Importance Of Hybrid Managers Business Essay

Identifying The Role And Importance Of Hybrid Managers Business Essay This paper is aimed at identifying the role and importance of hybrid managers in the present economic conditions of the 21st century. It tries to explain how the hybrid managers help the industries to flourish and subsequently the present economic scenario. A step by step analysis of definition of hybrid managers, its characteristics, their advantages, disadvantages has been made. As, the term management is a wider concept, first the role of a hybrid manager in an organisation and his importance is to be understood. Then, In order to explain the importance of hybrid managers in the present economic scenario, we need to understand the global economy of the 21st century. So a detailed account of present global scenario has been made. Finally the structure mentioned above has been used to form the foundation of the arguments presented in the last section of the paper- How Hybrid Managers hold the key to development in the 21st century Global Economy. Definition of a Hybrid manager: The term hybrid was originally coined by Peter Keen in the mid 1980s, but received its most precise and most quoted definition by Michael Earl: A person with strong technical skills and adequate business knowledge or vice versa . Hybrids are people with technical skills able to work in user areas doing a line job, but adept at developing and implementing IT application ideas In addition, roles such as leaders and impresarios were also defined. However, these distinctions are seldom recognized by practicing managers. From the above definition it is pretty clear that although the term HYBRID is being used only for the last 2 decades, managers with such skills always existed. So, it is the need for an increase in the quantity of such managers that has increased in the 21st century. So a more popular term hybrid manager has been coined. The need for the increase in the quantity of hybrid managers sums up the whole economic scenario of this era. The Quality of the managers has been there before but the present global economy needs more of such hybrid managers. Characteristics of hybrid managers: From the definition of a hybrid manager, it is understood that he should be sound technically and well versed with business needs of the organisation specifically he works for. The latter is the most important aspect to ensure success. We will discuss about organisation specific knowledge in detail. Organizational specific knowledge: The most important skill of a hybrid manager is How to get the things done as per the requirements? The time taken by the hybrid manager with an organization to develop this particular skill makes essential importance for the hybrid managers. A good hybrid manager exploits the networking skills to build the personal or social network over a period of time. This gives them a simple tool to get the works done easily with multiple sources of information. Since every organization will have good communication media either by internet or by intra-net, hybrid managers can utilize this communication media efficiently to get the exact required information on the requirements at the time of need. However it all depends on the level of expertise a hybrid manager has within the organization. For example it takes time for a navy-hybrid manager to get the contacts with the senior management and generate the repo with them. But a senior hybrid manager can get the exact required information within t he time limits. General management skills: The characteristics that are often searched for in a manager include soft interpersonal skills. They are Motivation Communication Negotiation Team building The true ability of a hybrid manager lies with their ability to exchange jobs with their peers in other functions. For example in a software organisation, a manager for HR services should be able to act as a chief information officer (CIO) Hybrid managers should also have a good social skill and extroversion to manage people. A more detailed explanation of various possible roles played by hybrid manager will be discussed in the section Role of a hybrid manager in an organisation. Need for a hybrid manager: Some of the issues that are being faced by IT industry are highlighted by a survey conducted by popular IT press. The major issued faced by IT companies are as follows Only 11% of organisations are successful with IT according to any objective measure (A.T.Kearney) 30% of systems projects fail to meet user needs (KPMG) Over 40% of systems projects are not completed within time or to budget (Butler Cox) Only 27% of CEOs in the UK are satisfied that their IT department can deliver them the business advantage they need in the 1990s (Amdahl) http://www.skyrme.com/insights/6hybrid.htm Also as per 1985 opinion survey of MIS managers, the key issues faced by organizations are as follows Alignment of IS to business needs Strategic Benefits of IT not understood by business managers Need to improve IS-line relationships Identification of competitive edge applications The opinion survey of the managers implies that most of the managers at that time do not understand the importance of aligning IS to business needs. This shows the need for a close partnership between IT and business. This is where a hybrid manager comes into play. He is the one who can deal with both IT and business aspects of an organisation. He will have the capability to align IT with business. http://www.skyrme.com/insights/6hybrid.htm Role of a hybrid manager in an organisation: The greatest challenge faced by an IT industry is the perceived misalignment between technology and business requirement. The common perception is BUSINESS AND IT CANNOT COMMUNICATE and they speak different language. So, the role of a good hybrid manager is to act BILINGUAL. He should act as a bridge between the two worlds. Till recently, IT industry is seen as a back office work which can actually be outsourced. But with the changing times and global recession taking its toll on the companies, IT is being seen as a part of the industry. This has given rise, the requirement of managers who could also deal IT. But because it is always easier the other way round, i.e. IT managers with good business skills, a new concept of hybrid managers arose. Let us take an example of a successful hybrid manager, graham Johnson. Like many other students he took up electronics and got a highly paid job in chip design. In that job he started as electronic engineer and later went on to become self employed consultant, CIO and now transformation consultant for Ecclesiastical Insurance During his time with this firm, he worked on major projects with famous names like marks and Spencer, abbey national and baring securities. While undertaking these projects he seconded as IT manager reporting to the financing director. With that experience, he gained a lot of knowledge about business and finance issues. Also, when he became self-employed he worked on large projects for a string of other famous companies, such as Legal General Assurance, Nationwide Building Society and the London Stock Exchange. With this experience of self employed consultant he got to work with lot of clients and dealt with them successfully. He gained a lot of experience of working with people. Now with that experience of dealing with the clients and the technical experience he already possessed, he is working as a transformation consultant. I think theres a real shortage of classic hybrid managers who can manage the technical gurus but also have a coherent business conversation with the chief executive, Johnson says. Lots of people are logical and lots of people have human empathy, but there dont seem to be too many who have a bit of both. This could mean there are wider career opportunities for those who do develop both left and right brain sides. The above example portrays the role of a hybrid manager in an organisation. So the most important and primary responsibility of a hybrid manager is to have a clear understanding of the business issues such as the requirements of the clients, market value for the products etc in addition to the core technical knowledge he possess. Senior level hybrid managers can make the most important impact for organizations decisions in various areas of business decisions of organization. The research work conducted on various projects identified some of the following particular contributions that hybrids make: 1) Initiate the awareness on potential capabilities of IT for a organizational business 2) Business needs of IT must be identified 3) Anticipate in finding the new possible applications of IT 4) Assess the pros and cons of new technological advancements 5 ) Give appropriate strength to the benefits of IT to line managers of organization. 6) Making broad awareness programs to ensure information system managers learning about business issues and opportunities 7) Information system functions responses of emerging and changing business needs can be provided to the organization. Before going to discuss about the role of a hybrid manager in the 21st century economy, we will discuss the pros and cons of having a hybrid managers. Advantages of hybrid manager: The effective leadership qualities of hybrid managers can create islands of real business and information system understanding. These islands are proving to be the accelerators for an organizational hybridization. Every stage of organizational hybridization is gaining flexibility and effectiveness with the help of hybrid managers. Disadvantages of hybrid manager: Even though there are many advantages of hybrid managers throughout organizational hybridization, it takes high amount effective resources of organization which may not be available for every organization throughout the hybridization process. Developmental stages of hybridization of organizations may vary with the governance that is being followed within the organization. Business consistent information system, Information oriented expletive business are the two different disparate disciplines. However integration of business consistent information system with the information oriented expletive business is the major huddle for hybrid managers. Even though there is no communication, which can make the amalgamation of two separate disparate disciplines with the same degree of effectiveness, it is very difficult to take out a simple and single stand out which bring a hybrid manager out of the two disciplines. Now let us discuss about the state of 21st century global economy. 21st century global economy: 21st century refers to the start of a new millennium from 1st January 2001. Global economy generally refers to Economy, which is based on economies of all the countries in the world. It can be evaluated in various ways. The evaluation is done based on US dollar. Economy can be indicated by various factors. They are GWP(gross world product) Inflation Global dept Unemployment Industries Energy All the factors referred above are the indicators of global economy. From the fall of 21st century, till the early part, the global economy was led by US. The new century has seen 10 years so far. The global economy can be divided in the following way in its first 10 years. 2001-2006: USA led the expansion of the global economy. Post Second World War, the economy of the world was more or less driven by the United States, with its aggressive industrialisation coupled with increasing consumer spending capability. 2007: china leads the expansion of global economy. With the occurrence of subprime bubble, the US economy collapsed and went towards depression. It affected many markets worldwide. This marked the beginning of recession in major world economies. 2008: credit crisis began. In that year, even though many markets in the world expanded, the markets which has impact on the world economy contracted. This led to a crisis like situation in world economy. 2009: credit crisis deepens. In this year most of the economies contracted. UK was the biggest victim of the contraction followed by Russia. 2010: recovery. The international monetary fund forecasts recovery. But the recovery was not as good as expected. There were fears of double dip recession in many major economies of the world. So, in the early years of 21st century, the global economy was mostly dull and subtle. The vice president and chief economist of World Bank, justin yifu lin opines that The crisis has deeply impacted virtually every economy in the world, and although growth has returned, much progress in the fight against poverty has been lost. More difficult international conditions in the years to come will mean that developing countries will have to place even more emphasis on improving domestic economic conditions to achieve the kind of growth that can durably eradicate poverty. http://publications.worldbank.org/index.php?main_page=product_infoHYPERLINK http://publications.worldbank.org/index.php?main_page=product_infocPath=0products_id=23738HYPERLINK http://publications.worldbank.org/index.php?main_page=product_infocPath=0products_id=23738cPath=0HYPERLINK http://publications.worldbank.org/index.php?main_page=product_infocPath=0products_id=23738HYPERLINK http://publications.worldbank.org/index.php?main_page=product_infocPath=0products_id=23738products_id=23738 How Hybrid Managers still hold the key to development in the 21st century global economy: As discussed above, the state of global economy is dull at the latter half of the decade. According to the vice president of World Bank, the key to the recovery of the global economy is to improve the domestic economies. This can be achieved by aggressive entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship requires good management to succeed. This is where the hybrid managers come into play. There were many examples in the past where with the change in the management style, the firms have been successful. As said in the Harvard Business Review analyzed by  Alan M. Webber in January-February 1993 that: General Motors, buffeted by the turbulence of global competition, changes nearly its entire senior management team. IBM, made vulnerable by rapid technology shifts and the arrival of smaller, more nimble start-ups, begins the painful process of taking itself apart. Sears, humbled by fragmenting markets and cost-conscious competitors, strives to rediscover in a changed business environment its original retailing success. Across the corporate landscape, in every industry and at every level, managers are struggling to adapt to unfamiliar circumstances and new strains of competition. From the above statement, it is clear that the managers are finding it difficult to adopt themselves to the changes in the trend. This situation has arrived due to the fact that managers are well versed with only either economics of the business and do not have technical skills to understand the changes in the technology or only technology and do not have skills to compete with the changes in the marketing style. This is where hybrid managers like graham johnson (discussed in the section role of hybrid managers in an organisation) helps the organisation. He had developed both the skills required to manage an organisation. With the experience he obtained from running a consultancy during which he worked with many firms like Legal General Assurance, Nationwide Building Society and the London Stock Exchange, he understood how to attract clients, what they want and how to deal with them. Already, he has got a degree in electronics and worked on major projects with famous names like mark s and Spencer, abbey national and baring securities. So he has got a clear idea of how the technology is changing in his field. He had a clear understanding of the business needs and client requirements. So every industry needs a hybrid manager like graham Johnson. The hybrid managers should possess an organisational specific knowledge, i.e. both technical and economics. As said by justin yifu lin, global economy is driven by improving domestic markets. Domestic markets are driven by enterprises. Enterprises are driven by hybrid managers. So from the above concept it is clear that hybrid managers are important for the economy to flourish. As we know the current situation of fluctuating economic scenario, the person in charge should understand the new turbulent world of business. The manager being the person in charge should be able to answer the questions on new economic world order. So what is so new about the new world economic order? According to Alan .M .Webber, the analyst of Harvard business school, the answer is A qualitative shift is taking place in the ways companies compete, managers manage, and business is conducted. At one level, that shift has familiar elements-for example, from mass production, mass marketing, and mass organizations to flexible production, niche marketing, and networked organizations. But even shorthand descriptors such as these dont capture the power of the change and the enormous implications for managers. So the answer lies with the change in the mind set of the managers. In addition to be able to do programming, the managers should also concentrate on complex economics of the business. Present global economy needs high level of technical knowledge combined with essential information management skills to accelerate the business to achieve the pre determined goals within the specified time limits. The essential skill which makes managers to be called as hybrid managers must be identified and they must be trained with the time to get the best talent out of them. With a few notable exceptions, many of the organizations are preparing a strong ground work in developing hybrid managers for solving the challenges of real world management problem. Conclusion: Today, the worlds economic crisis can directly be attributed to worlds management crisis. In 1990 a British compute society (BCS) report UK, companies were exhorted to train circa 10,000 people to become hybrid managers by 1995. The British computer society understood the importance of hybrid managers and their role in building the British economy and subsequently the world economy. It is to be understood that UK is one of the main victims of global recession that shook the world in 2008-2009. If the foresight of BCS is met with, its economy wouldnt have suffered as it has happened now. Better late, than never. So in order to understand the fluctuating and versatile global economy versatility in management is required. . Nandan Nilekani, CEO and MD of Infosys Technologies, had said while speaking at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore recently, that what the world required today was a new breed of Hybrid Manager- the versatilist. Nilekani further added: A versatilist has the ability to apply skills more intensively to situations. Hence, they gain new competencies, build new relationships, and assume new roles. One should be equally at ease with technical issues as with business and strategic. You have to synthesize knowledge, experience and the context to create value.

Education Essay

Curriculum is defined as â€Å"a program of courses to be taken in pursuit of a degree or other objective† (Harvey, 2004). Meanwhile, the tests may impact the local curriculum in such a way that it becomes â€Å"strengthened and enriched† (Seattle Public Schools, 2007). Let us take for instance, the â€Å"Washington Assessment of Student Learning†, which is actually a series of tests that assists ensure that student will grasp the â€Å"foundational skills and knowledge that educator, parents, nd community leaders say are important to their success in life† (Bergeson, n. d. ). Since the â€Å"Washington Assessment of Student Learning† helps determine the performance of each student, as well as, the school, this is then utilized to â€Å"improve teaching and to do a better job of meeting every student’s academic needs† (Bergeson, n. d. ). Another proof that tests impact on curriculum is the fact that the â€Å"Washington Assessment of Student Learning† is established â€Å"to create a set of common learning standards† (Bergeson, n. . ). This means that the test indeed helpful in the curriculum, for without the existence of common learning standards, nothing will be improved on the part of curriculum (Bergeson, n. d. ). Last but not least, if a certain student fails in the â€Å"Washington Assessment of Student Learning†, the performance of the student will be tackled with the teacher along with an authorized employee from the â€Å"Advanced Learning Office† (Bergeson, n. d. ). They will then try to come up with â€Å"an individualized action plan† which â€Å"outlines what interventions will be put into place and what types of assessments will be administered to monitor student academic growth† (Seattle Public Schools, 2007). This now serves as the individual curriculum of the student which may turn into the school’s curriculum if the students have the same case as the aforementioned (Seattle Public Schools, 2007). On a final note, as backed up in the aforementioned, tests then greatly impact local curriculum.

In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad presents the character of Kurtz as a man who is seen differently by all who know him depending on their individual experiences with him. His cousin knew him as a man with great musical talent, others knew him as a great leader, and his Intended fiance knew him as an admirable humanitarian; but all of these knew him to be a remarkable genius. When the narrator, Marlow, first hears of him, he is told that Kurtz is known as a great leader destined to hold high positions and fame. Kurtzs madness, although made clear early in the novel, is barely recognizable among the horrors of the men of the Company who completely dehumanize the Africans and treat them like animals or even worse in some cases. The difference is found in the fact that the Company tries to downplay their brutality while Kurtz is completely honest about his suppression of the natives, whom he refers to as brutes, and his desire to eradicate them. In his final days, he reveals to Marlow the plans for his life that include fame and the expansion of his power and reputation. The portrait is 37 5/8 by 29  ½ inches and is an oil on wood( Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1999). I picked this painting because of the self assurance, at first glance, of the young man that is depicted. This appealed to me because it reflected my own attitude. After studying the portrait for a considerable amount of time I began to see possible sadness or self-doubt in the young mans face that betrays his powerful stance. I felt a connection to the young man, knowing all too well what it was like to present a powerful outside image while knowing there was a self conscious and scared person inside.†¦show more content†¦An Artistic Evaluation head worked into the side. The painting is supported by wood, opaque oil paints were applied thickly with a fine brush, I was unable to see any distinct brush strokes. The forms are flat except for the beads on the young mans hat which seem to raise off the painting. The portrait contains a simple organization. There are few individual units like the chair and table but the picture is crowded. The shapes are regular and complete with clear defining lines.
